Karen Lindebrekke is Director of Programs of the iBIO Institute EDUCATE Center. She develops and implements all EDUCATE programs, including Stellar Girls and TalentSparks, which focus on teacher professional development in STEM education and in problem-based learning (PBL) experiences with industry and community partners. Previously, she was a PBL professional development specialist at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy where she conducted workshops throughout Illinois and across the country. Karen has 15 years of high school and college mathematics and science teaching experience and over 12 years experience directing STEM Education programs. She has served as a national curriculum coordinator in mathematics, a science and mathematics test development specialist, as a leader in outdoor environmental education, and as an educational consultant for the Illinois R&D STEM Learning Exchange. Karen has also conducted ecological research and has trained teachers and students in field research. She has been a professional writer and editor of science and mathematics curricula and assessments, and she regularly presents at state and national conferences. She holds a M.S. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction in Science and Mathematics and a B.A. in Zoology. Karen is married and has four daughters, two grandsons, a dog and three cats. She serves on the board of her church and actively volunteers and works for social justice. She also enjoys hiking and camping in the great outdoors.
